Description: 100+ Item Lot, Early 1930’s Pigeon Racing Collection, Ephemera, Documentation. This collection is a time capsule to the years 1931 to 1935, back when pigeon racing was known as, the “Sport of Kings”. This is the collection of George Budd, an accomplished pigeon racer of the early 1930’s who raced out of the Boston Concourse. It includes 64 racing certificates / diplomas; 8 handwritten scorecards (7 of the 8 written on both the front and back); pigeon racing correspondence; related newspaper articles / announcements; and, the ultimate book on the subject, “National Standard Squab Book”, by Elmer Rice, 1923. I didn’t know anything about pigeon racing when I bought this collection a few years ago, but learned a great deal reading through all this. It’s a shame that such a majestic sport has lost much of its following in our modern age. It comes in the container I received it in, a 1930 era box stamped “Longworth Clothes / $23.50 All Wool Suites” on the inside (though lettering is faded.
