Description: This 100 milligram [1/10 gram] 24 karat pure [.999 fine] "D'ORO EDUCATIONAL NOTE" was produced in 2017 by Valaurum, Inc., of Portland, Oregon, in a proprietary process that has multiple security and anti-counterfeiting features. The strict security features have prompted many nations to adopt Aurum and other Gold Notes as legal tender. This EDUCATIONAL Note is not legal U.S. currency but is composed of pure gold in a process by which atomized gold vapor is layered in a vacuum to a polyester substrate. The result is a finished product that is durable and features multiple colors on the Note from red to purple, yellow, green, white and gold. The lavish display of color makes the Note stand out, as does the scene depicted. Numismatists refer to the "Education Series" of United States silver certificates produced by the U.S. Treasury in 1896 as the most beautiful monetary designs ever produced in the United States. Bureau of Engraving and Printing chief Claude M. Johnson ordered the new design, focusing on Science and Commerce. The design motifs reflected President William McKinley's optimism in the character of the American people and epitomized an era when Science and Commerce joined forces to create innovation and wealth that is still reflected around us today. In this design the children, Steam and Electricity, are being introduced to Commerce [left] and Manufacturing. This "D'ORO" Note does not carry the Aurum logo, which is unusual and applies to only a few early Aurum Notes produced by this private company. The date printed on the Note is 2017, and a unique serial number appears at center left. Assay details of weight and purity appear in several places on the Note along with anti-counterfeiting measures common in all Aurum Notes.
