The poem is considered to be one of the greatest works of literature ever written.The sequel, 'Paradise Regain'd', is likewise a blank verse poem, though is much shorter than its predecessor, being described as a brief epic. This volume also includes 'Samson Agonistes' and 'Poems Upon Several Occasions'.'Paradise Lost' is illustrated with a frontispiece, and thirteen plates. Two pages of adverts to the rear. He wrote during a period of political upheaval and religious flux in England with the English Civil War. CONDITION In a full calf binding. Externally, worn. Front board to each volume are held by cords only. Light discolouration and minor marks to the boards and spines. Minor bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the head and tail of the spines, and to the spine label of 'Lost'. Crack to the spine of 'Lost'. Rear joints are starting, rear hinges are strained. Ink notes to the paste downs and endpapers. Internally, 'Regain'd' is firmly bound, 'Lost' is strained in places, with pages 147 to 166 detached but present. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean with the occasional scattered spot.
