Description: On offer is an undated (1840-66) Germany - Grand Duchy of Hesse Military Campaign Service Medal in estimated Extremely Fine condition. This medal is in bronze and is approximately 31mm in diameter. This medal was instituted in 1840, for military service under the Grand Duchy of Hesse. Veterans of campaigns waged between 1780 and 1866 were eligible to receive the award. This period included the Napoleonic Wars, the revolutionary conflicts of 1848-49, and the 1866 Austro-Prussian War. The obverse displays the crowned monogram of Grand Duke Ludwig II (1777-1848) above the inscription GESTIFTET AM 14 IUNI 1840 ("Instituted 14 June 1840") - commemorating the inception of the award on that date. The reverse features the inscription, FUR TREUEN DIENST IM KRIEGE ("For Faithful Service In War"). The item pictured is the exact item which will be received.
