Description: Back during the post-Civil War period, carte de visites or CDV images became the rage that postcards became around 1908. Following the tin type, this type of image was much more affordable to produce so famous people plus one's friends and relatives became collected by people, just like some of us did baseball cards when growing up. And men like Matthew Brady and many others got rich off selling them, with many American towns having local portrait studio photographers. When they're back marked or annotated, they're much more desirable. But this one isn't. This is a 2 3/8" x 4" example showing Ulysses Grant and his family, which was likely distributed for his 1868 presidential campaign or during his presidency since he was one of the most popular people in the country when he ran and governed. And when he died in 1886, the tomb built for him in New York City was the wonder of its time. This is in nice condition but please look at our images to judge condition for yourself so you can be happy with your purchase. S & H on this will be $5.50 sent well-protected with tracking. We are members of APIC and sell only authentic presidential (and other collectible) material so buy with confidence, and we'll be happy to combine S & H costs on multiple purchases even though eBay says we won't. We just issue a refund for any overpayment. 9053
