Description: On the title page is printed: “Atlas of the City of Philadelphia, 42nd Ward, from Actual Surveys and Official Plans by George W. and Walter S. Bromley & Co., Civil Engineers, Published by G. W. Bromley & Co., 147 N. 5th St., Philadelphia 1923”. This folio size atlas weighs in at 17 pounds and 12 ounces. It measures 23 inches by 18 inches by 3 inches. There is a double page linen backed color Outline and Index Map with Legend, a linen backed Street Index page, and 36 tabbed double page linen backed color maps. Many of the maps have paste overs which were added as properties were developed. The cover is cloth covered with a gilt lettered leather cover label, leather corners, and a leather spine. Stamped twice on the front endpaper is: “Allen & Barnes, Real Estate & Conveyancing, 2515 Germantown Ave., Phila., Penna.” Condition: The maps are all in excellent clean condition with no tears. They have light even age toning with a bit more toning in the top margins of some of the pages. This atlas was very well taken care of. There is a small damp stain to the upper corner of the first two pages (the endpaper and the page after that). A photo of the stain on the first endpaper is provided. Towards the outer front edge of the first endpaper there is light evidence of insect activity to the surface that can be seen on close examination. We see no other sign of insect activity and they are long gone. On the linen back of Plate 13 there is some discoloration on the left and right. However, this is confined only to the linen and does not go through to the map side. On Plate 22, one of the paste overs has developed ripples. On Plate 33 there is a loose piece which was meant to be a paste over but was never attached as the glue on the back is entirely intact. The last endpaper has two tiny chips off of the bottom edge. There is wear to the leather corners of the covers and to the top and bottom edges of the spine as shown in the photos. There is a label of Frank H. M. Klinge Map Publisher glued onto the inner side of the last endpaper. The label shows a decimal table for each1/8 inch. We have provided a photo of the label. This item is inventory #7825.
