Description: ODUM -- W.W. "Babe" Davis, 86, died July 18 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup.He was a native of Coffee County, a former resident of Nichols and lived in Odum the past 65 years. He attended Brewton-Parker College, played minor and major league baseball from 1931 to 1938. He was a member of the Major League Baseball Alumni Association and was founder of Babe's Mighty Mights boys and girls baseball and softball leagues of Wayne County.He was a former employee of the Internal Revenue Service and retired in 1973 from the Alcohol and Tobacco Unit of the Georgia Department of Revenue with 25 years of service. He was a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia, the Odum Lions Club and an active member of Odum United Methodist Church.He was a former mayor of Odum and a Navy veteran of World War II.
