Great recording by LAWRENCE DUCHOW and his RED RAVEN INN ORch One of the leading Polka Orchestras of the 1930s Lawrence Duchow And His Red Raven Inn Orchestra – Emilia Polka / Clarinet Polka In Waltz TempoVictor 25-1013A Emilia Polka (Laughing Polka)Written-By – Louis VitakB Clarinet Polka In Waltz TempoWritten-By – Howard Wolf, Norbert EckerClarinet Polka In Waltz Tempo - Regards to Norbert Ecker and Howard WolfRCA VICTOR PURPLE LABEL 10" 78 rpm CONDITION: VERY GOOD PLUS PLUS, unworn but rubs, plays E+ EXCEPTIONALLY quietA SUPERB COPYHistory of Lawrence Duchow and His Red Raven OrchestraThe present Red Ravens originally were known as Hal’s Bluebirds. That was way back in 1932 and that original band had only four members, namely, Lawrence Duchow, his brother Rueben and the two Siegrist Brothers, Donald and Ervin, now better known as Cecil. Their first real job was for a dance at Kleist’s Hall, Potter. Since then, jobs have been numerous and the Red Ravens still pack ‘em in at Potter too. In those early days Cecil played the piano and on request he can still pound out hot licks on that particular instrument. Hal’s Bluebirds lasted for six months as a four piece unit and then the boys spread their wings and expanded to seven pieces. Red was one of the first to join the new band and he’s still playing trumpet. In keeping with the new rhythm they dispensed the name of Hal’s Bluebirds to Red Ravens, a name suggested by Melvin Brock of Detroit who gets a lot a credit for giving the band a flying start. This larger unit was started in 1933 and for occasional changes which all orchestras experience has been kept intact. It wasn’t long before Lawrence Duchow and his Red Ravens were heard on the air each Sunday noon over WHBY. Later on when WTAQ was started they switched to that station and have been heard from there ever since. The popularity of the band is attested to by the fact that they received thousands of requests each year. This popularity can probably be attributed to the fact that they play music which is pleasing to both young and old. That and the fact that they emphasize good rhythm and close harmony. Each member is a good soloist in his own right, but the boys prefer to click together as one unit. Plans for the future contain no radical changes; instead you most likely will continue to hear the Red Ravens dish out the same pleasing melodies as they have in the past.Lawrence Duchow The Sheboygan Press December 19, 1972Funeral services were held Monday for Lawrence Duchow, 58, a well-known area orchestra leader, who died Saturday at Hemet Valley Hospital, Calif. His body was cremated at Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Bloomington, Calif. Mr. Duchow led the Red Raven Orchestra and recorded on the RCA Victor label from 1932 to 1954. He managed the Red Raven Inn at Hilbert, and later operated the Raveno Ballroom at Neenah and the Orahula Ballroom in Fremont. The Red Raven Orchestra played weekly at the Trianon Ballroom, Chicago, and had a weekly broadcast on WGN Radio, Chicago. Among numbers the band made famous were the "Blue Skirt Waltz" and "Swiss Boy Waltz". He was born May 9, 1914, at Potter, a son of the late Adolph and Ida Lerche Duchow. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Keinast, Oshkosh; two grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Glasman, St. Pablo, Calif. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Duchow's name for Peace United Church of Christ, Potter. If for any reason your transaction was NOT SATISFACTORY, pls contact me and I will work something out with you. YOU WILL NEVER HAVE A REASON TO GIVE ME A NEGATIVE RATING or a LOW STAR RATING. Quick note on grading: The Grade (Excellent to Poor, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to P), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise."EXCEPTIONALLY QUIET" is close to noiseless, like a vinyl pressing."VERY QUIET" is an above average quiet record for a given pressing."Quiet" is a record that is a great example with some noise. These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment. Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.
