Description: Lake Erie Maps & Prints An Authentic Antique Map: Not a Modern Reproduction! Free US Shipping on 5 or More Maps and Prints Description: It is an original vintage map over 75 years old, published in January 1948 by the Army Corps of Engineers, which is stated on the map. A copy of the title page is also included, see the pics for more info. The map is not mounted, matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as seen in the pics. The New York State Canal System is the oldest transportation system in North America, at least in modern times. It began operation in 1825 and continues to be used by some commercial vessels today, although in recent years it mainly serves recreational watercraft along with shore trails for hiking and biking. The system is part of the Great Loop consisting of over 5000 miles of boating routes connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Great Lakes that is linked by a series of canals including the Champlain, Erie, Cayuga, Oswego and Seneca Canals. This maps shows just a small section of that great network as it was in 1948. The map was created by the Army Corps of Engineers as part of their 1948 US Lake Survey. Size: The image area measures approximately 10 1/2 by 15 inches (26x38cm) on an 11 by 17" page (28x43cm) Condition: Very Good to Excellent, in its original state as published in 1948. Other than very light tonal ageing as expected, it is very clean with strong color and an antique quality that would frame up well, see the pics for more on condition. The pics are of the actual map. Shipping: We only charge one nominal shipping fee and do combine additional maps at no extra costs and gladly refund extra shipping when purchased individually and shipped together. For multiple purchases it is best to use the ebay cart system which will automatically calculate the correct shipping when multiple maps are purchased at once and there is free US domestic shipping on 5 or more maps. International rates apply elsewhere. The map is placed in a plastic sleeve, anchored to a stiff brown paper for support and to prevent edge damage, then shipped in a heavy duty wide shipping tube.
