"The Capitulation of the Japanese Army", artist Pavel Sudakov, 1950 Pavel Fedorovich became famous for his first large painting, "The Capitulation of the Kwantung Army", written as a result of Sudakov's mission in August 1945 to the Far East as part of a group of border guard artists. The painting depicts two large groups of people opposed to each other. On one side are the victors. On the other, the vanquished. The images of the Soviet soldiers depicted in the foreground are individual. In the column of the vanquished, only one soldier stands out, looking with regret at the banners lying in the dust at the feet of the victors and trampled by the hoof of a horse. In contrast to the defeated and humiliated symbols of the Kwantung Army, the peaks of the red Soviet banners - symbols of Victory, are proudly raised up.
