This is a 19th century hand made 6 panel wood crate or box with antique metal dog pulls and inside original print of Ferdinand Schumacher German Mills Oats advertisement label. Region: Akron, Ohio Manufacturing: Ferdinand Schumacher German Mills Dates: 19th century- approx around 1886 6 panel wood box with hunting dog metal handles and cabin hook? hinges. Inside original label for Ferdinand Schumacher German Mills American oats To my knowledge this box would have consisted of 36 packages of oats? unless the box is older and print was later added?? I am not certain. I have only seen fragments of this particular box and print, where as this is in it’s entirety. You will have to do some research. Label is mounted vertically to inside left side wall as shown. Metal dog pulls/handles do not seem to be original to box. Probably added on in the early 20th century. They are not centered and look to be an addition to box by previous owner. Under each pull there is a white label with marks in writing of $1.25-pretty cool. There are some tiny holes under pulls-not sure what they are about. Some of the hardware looks to have been replaced and or newer hardware added over time. As shown a majority of original hardware, including nails, are still intact and original to box. Incredible patina to wood. Measures: (without outside hardware) 18”x 10” x 12.5” Add these dimensions on to include outer hardware .5” hooks + 1.25” x 4” pulls Condition: Please be in mind this box is old, has traveled far, and been used. Box has cracks, splints, soiling, chips, dents, dings, stains, spots, warping, pulls are not centered, holes, rust, odor, damage, scuffs, scratches, missing pieces, broken pieces, sides and or tops are no longer flush, lid is warped and does not close all the way, bowing, print inside has loss, damage, stains, tears, rips, toning, and other wear. Box and print need restoration if desired. You must take this box for exactly what it is.. old and awesome. It’s so incredibly beautiful no matter it’s flaws. Sold as is!
