You should see your external cameras image appear. Now to start recording press the button at the top, farthest on the right (play/pause/record button---does all three functions) you should see the red light & timer start, now you are recording. Press the same button to stop recording and save the file. NV scopes, thermal imaging cameras,& Black & white cameras will perform the best with this unit.
