Description: A BRITISH BORDERLAND SERVICE AND SPORT IN EQUATORIA CAPT. H. A. WILSON LONDON: JOHN MURRAY 1913 First edition. An officer in the King's African Rifles, Wilson mixed military activities with sport. En route to an assignment on the Nile, he bagged his first elephant. Along British East Africa's Mara River, he collected roan antelope, eland, and lion and hunted buffalo from a machan. His best chapters recount his elephant hunting adventures near Nimule on the White Nile. As Wilson notes, "I personally find an elephant easier to kill than a snipe, but then I'm a vile shot with a scattergun." (Czech, Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books.) From 1902 until 1906 the author served in Kenya and Uganda as an officer in the King's African Rifles and a member of the Anglo-German Boundary Commission. Although there are chapters on early Nairobi, the missionary movement, and the 1905-06 punitive expedition against the Nandi, Wilson's recollections are heavily influenced by his experiences as an amateur big game hunter.
