Description: ABOUT YOUR ORDER: You're buying one cutting from my gorgeous Aloe Medusa tree. These are easy to root--you just plant it in soil and keep the soil moist until roots form. My tree grew from a cutting and is 7 years old and about 10 feet tall. I took one cutting from my sister's tree and planted it in the ground where it's now growing and ignored it for about 6 months and all of a sudden it took off and hasn't stopped since. It gets gorgeous orange flowers in the winter that attract birds and pollinators. Mine gets mainly morning/afternoon sun until about 1 pm but it will thrive in partial or very sunny locations (it prefers full sun). I will include planting instructions with your order. I've been asked "How Big is the Cutting?". The answer is that I take the cutting on the day when I fulfill the order. Each cutting will be different depending on where the cutting is taken from the tree. In general, I use a 24" long box and the cutting would be no longer than that--most of it will be leafy with a smaller stem. The last photo shows an actual cutting that I sent out. I only have a few cuttings that I take from my tree each year when it needs pruning. Oh and my cat "Big Boy" absolutely loves to climb this tree--he was kind enough to pose in the first photo next to his favorite tree. Watching the hummingbirds that the tree attracts entertains him for hours. ABOUT THE ALOE TONGAENESIS MEDUSA: If you are wanting to add the ‘wow factor’ to your garden, the Tree Aloe is one of the most striking succulent plants that you can add to your landscape. Tongaenesis (Medusa) is a medium-sized slow growing upright tree aloe to 10 plus feet tall with heavy branching stems bearing thin 18 inch long pale green rubbery leaves that often take on a orange hue during the color months of the year in gardens. In late fall to early winter (December) a stout flowering stem rises above the foliage 1 to 2 feet before branching with each upright branch bearing compact rounded clusters of pale orange buds that open to a pale salmon color. Plant in full sun in a well-drained soil. Irrigate and fertilize in warm months to speed growth - it tolerates having water withheld but will grow very slowly. Hardy to around 22°F--they require very little when it comes to maintenance and are generally pest and disease free, It is a truly architectural plant that makes an impressive feature tree in any dry garden, Mediterranean or tropical landscape design. ALOE MEDUSA VERSUS ALOE BARBARAE:The Medusa is similar to the Barbarae (I have both) but the foliage is much denser and greener on the Medusa. Also, the Medusa tree is more compact and won't grow as tall--the flowers are different as well. If you have a limited space and want a tree that when full grown will not be huge then the Medusa is the one for you. I would liken the size of the full-grown tree to a Dwarf orange tree. Unlike the Barbarae, I've never seen a Medusa for sale by any other grower. I've sold my cuttings to folks who have greenhouses and basement gardens and the cuttings do very well in those situations. Feel free to email me with questions.
