Description: Here we have a wonderful, incredibly rare antique South African flag. This dates to c1928- 1930's. There were intermittent discussions about a more distinctive flag for South Africa in 1910, and after a coalition government took charge in 1925, a bill was introduced in Parliament to introduce a national flag for the union. It provoked an often violent controversy that lasted for 3 years based on whether the British Union flag should be included in the new flag design. The 3 flags in the centre represent the former British colonies of Cape Colony & Natal with the Union flag on the left, followed by the flags of the former Boer republics of Orange Free State & the South Africa Republic on the right. The current flag of South Africa was designed in 1994. This is a real piece of history and would make a wonderful decorative wall hanging that would make a wonderful focal point in the room, even better with several in a row. Perfect for a "man cave", student apartment or shop window display. The flag itself measures approximately 33 inches by 16.5 inches, the pole is approximately 43 inches long (3ft 7). This is the only one on eBay of course so get it while you can!
