Description: Beautiful and hard to find Tea Set consisting of creamer, tea pot and sugar bowl with lids; circa mid to late 1800's. It is hand painted with a lovely flower pattern; similar to many Staffordshire pieces from the period. Measurements:Teapot: ~11 inches wide from tip of spout to edge of handle; ~6 inches across-side to side; ~7 inches tall from bottom of base to top of lid handleSugar bowl: ~6 1/2 inches wide from outer edge of one handle to outer edge the other; ~5 inches across- side to side; ~6 inches tall from bottom of base to top of lid handleCreamer: ~5 inches wide from tip of spout to outer edge of handle; ~4 inches tall from base to top of spout; ~3 inches across- side to side All of the pieces are in very good condition for their age. There are small chips on the inner rim of the teapot, some tea staining on the inside, and brown staining on the bottom of the teapot and one of the lids. The sugar bowl has some chips and rough spots on the inner rim and some cracks on the bottom (inside and out), but they are smooth to the touch. English soft paste porcelain is a hard, compact, chalky-appearing and somewhat vitrified white paste, that is softer and more granular than Asian porcelains. Pieces are covered with a semi-gloss, transparent lead or feldspathic glaze that is not completely fused with the paste, appearing as a thin line in cross section. Decoration is most commonly underglaze hand painting. Motifs include chinoiserie, floral and naturalistic designs. It was produced in England from ~1745-1800. Please email me with questions.
