Description: Matted and framed Jack Markow original comic drawing from sometime in the 1940's. Great subject matter from this award winning gag cartoonist! I believe this is pen/ink/wash. Matting size is 14.5" x 11.5" and frame size is 20" x 16.75". There is a handwritten note on the back that says (best I can see) "In Jack's bar Jul 10 1949 with sincerest appreciation of his various abilities-Jerry". I'm not sure if this means that this hung in Markow's personal home bar? Drawing is in undamaged near mint or better condition. Frame has moderate wear from the years. Very cool example of mid-century gag art! Safe shipping. Thanks! Jack Markow, was born in London, England, came to the U.S. when he was 2 and studied at Art Students League, NY. He had thousands of cartoons published in the U.S. and abroad in such leading magazines as The New Yorker, Saturday Review, New York Sunday Times Magazine, and the Saturday Evening Post. He taught drawing and cartooning at the School of Visual Arts for eight years and published four how-to-cartoon books. His monthly column on cartooning appeared in Writer's Digest for over a decade. He also wrote regularly for the quarterly, Cartoonist Profiles, and his biographies of cartoonists appeared in Encyclopedia Americana.
