In his solidarity with Wilhelm von Bode, Kaufmann donated a number of works of art to the Berlin museums (Department of Sculptures of the Christian Era, Gemäldegalerie), of which the "Madonna on the Lawn Bench" by Robert Campin is particularly noteworthy. This "Richard von Kaufmann Foundation" had to be renamed the "Foundation for the Benefit of the Gemäldegalerie" in 1938 due to the Jewish ancestry of its founder.[4] After his death, his widow donated further works to the museums before the collection was auctioned off in 1918. His impressive collection included works by Pieter Bruegel the Elder ("Land of Cockaigne" - today Munich, Alte Pinakothek), Lucas Cranach the Elder and Ludwig van Beethoven. Provenance: Ex collection: Piero Tozzi , New York City Piero Vito Tozzi was an antiquarian, professor and art dealer who had galleries in New York and Florence. Tozzi specialized in Italian decorative arts, sculpture and paintings. .Tozzi sold work to individual collectors, galleries and institutions including, among others, the Schaeffer Galleries, Samuel Kress, the Art Institute of Chicago, Cincinnati Art Museum, Walters Art Museum and the Metropolitan Art Museum.
