Description: Two (2) 1930's vintage front-strike matchbooks in good condition from Downer's La Torre Cafe that was located on U.S. Highway 99 in Castaic, California. These rare old matchbooks were manufactured by the Lion Match Company in Los Angeles, California, are very collectible and will display well, considering they are almost 80 years old. The café opened in 1920 and was owned and operated by Harold N. Downer. They advertised "Serving Only The Finest of Foods at Sensible Prices" and at one time had a "Chicken In The Rough" franchise. ( I have posted a photograph of an old advertisement from Downer's Café that I found on the Web ) All matchbooks are sealed in plastic wrap and shipped in a protective cardboard sleeve to prevent any damage to the product.
