Epoque XX, circa 1940Pair Ferdinand DUBREUIL (1894-1957)Total dimensions 19 x 17cmPretty good condition, on vellum, slight creases, some freckles..THIS IS AN ANTIQUE PRINT OVER 70 YEARS OLD.Ferdinand Dubreuil (19 March 1894 – 29 January 1972) was a French artist.Ferdinand Dubreuil was the son of Amable Dubreuil, known as "Julien", postmaster at the mine in Doyet, and Anna Dutron.Gifted for drawing, he was received in the competition that allowed him to enter the Compagnie du Paris-Orléans as a student-draftsman. He was sent to Bort-les-Orgues, where he worked until 1914.War breaks out; Ferdinand Dubreuil is mobilized with the 5th Engineering Regiment at Versailles. It is sent to the front, where it does plan readings and specializes in bridge mining. During his rare moments of leisure, he drew and his sketches were sold in favor of self-help works for the military. He was demobilized in September 1919, awarded the Croix de guerre and the military medal. He then resumed his work at the railway for a few months in Montluçon, then was appointed to the "Roads and Buildings" department in Tours, where he spent the rest of his existence. He married Berthe Philippe1 there on October 11, 1920. On December 15, 1960, while returning to Montluçon, he skid on an ice plate in La Chapelaude (Allier). He will remain paralyzed for 12 years. He is buried in La Salle Cemetery or La Salle in Tours. His talent was rewarded many times and he was an officer of the Legion of Honor (as a fine arts title), academy officer, social merit officer. He was a member of French artists and winner of the Salon des armées. He won the Émile André Schefer Prize in 1947, the vermilion medal of the society "Arts, Sciences et Lettres" and the honorary prize of the national competition "art and poetry". ArtworkHe became best known as an author of engraved wood and illustrator of books, such as Legends Bourbonnaises by Georges Piquand, Le Bourbonnais and its writers by Henri Gourin and Jean-Charles Varennes, but he was also the author of books inspired by his personal career: the First World War, the Bourbonnais, Touraine, the railway, the mine and the miners. The most iconic work on the latter subject is I Saw Saint Beard Die in the Land of Minors, a moving tribute to her roots. In 1960, he offered Doyet several works that decorated the town hall2. He has exhibited in Tours, Angers, Le Touquet, Lille, Moulins, Nevers, Commentry, Vichy, Montluçon, Casablanca, Brussels, etc.
