Florence Klingensmith Pioneering Female Aviator Rare Killed Crash 1933 Autograph

Description: Florence Gunderson Klingensmith [1904 1933] was a pioneering American aviatrix of the Golden Age of Air Racing and a founding member of the Ninety-Nines, a women's pilot group. In 1929 she became the first woman in North Dakota to receive a pilot' license and on April 19, 1930, she set the women's record for inside loops with 143 loops, then broke the record again with 1,078 loops in 1931. At the 1931 National Air Races in Cleveland, Ohio she won four woman-only events and then won the most coveted prize, the Amelia Earhart Trophy at the 1932 Nationals. In 1933, she became the first woman to enter the Frank Phillips Trophy Race where she flew a bright red Gee Bee Model Y Sportster. On September 4, 1933, Florence was flying in fourth place when she lost control of the aircraft, while exceeding 200 mph and was killed on impact. Listed for auction is the exceedingly rare autograph of Florence Gunderson Klingensmith signed on a flight flown postal envelope. The card id addressed in type as follows, This Card Flown By Florence Klingensmith, Famous Woman Flyer, In Her Plane To The National Air Races, And Also In The Plane For The Duration Of The Air Races'' and is signed ''Florence E. Klingensmith'' in black fountain pen. The card measures 5.50 x 3.25 inches, it has a trivial toning otherwise it is in fine condition. The autograph will be accompanied with a vintage b/w photograph [4.50 x 2.75] of Klingensmith standing by her plane along with an original newspaper article announcing her death at the Chicago air race. The autograph of Florence Klingensmith is exceedingly rare to obtain, this is a very desirable example, flight flown and accompanied with a period article. It is an outstanding example of this pioneering women aviator.
