Description: Late 19th century Grand Tour bronze depicting the Temple of Castor and Pollux. Supplied without stand. The Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Roman Forum in Rome was built in the last decade of the 1st century BC, replacing an earlier Temple of the Twin Sons of Jupiter that had stood on the site since 484 BC. Today, only the inner concrete podium core and three columns remain of this once massive structure. Castor and Pollux in Roman mythology were twin demigods, descendants of Jupiter and Leda.
