Description: The currency used during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia) in 1942, in uncirculated (UNC) condition, was the Japanese Invasion Money (JIM). I have 40 uncirculated notes. They are all in very good condition. You will receive 10 random notes out of the 40. During World War II, the Dutch East Indies was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army after the Dutch surrender on March 8, 1942. The Japanese military introduced their own currency, known as “Government-General Notes” or “Invasion Money,” to replace the existing Dutch gulden and Indonesian rupiah. The new currency was issued in denominations of 1, 5, and 10 sen, as well as 1, 5, and 10 yen. The Japanese military also overprinted some Dutch banknotes with new values and issued military scrip. These notes were produced quickly and with low security features, making them easy to counterfeit. The Japanese military used this currency to buy resources and supplies from the local population, as well as to pay their soldiers. However, the JIM rapidly depreciated due to overproduction and inflation, causing significant economic hardship for the local population. Collectors of military currency often seek out uncirculated (UNC) examples of these notes for their collections. UNC notes are in pristine condition, with no signs of wear, folds, or blemishes. These notes are highly sought after due to their historical significance and rarity.
