Hank Ketcham initially worked as an animator for Walter Lantz and Walt Disney on notable films as Pinocchio, Bambi and Fantasia. He created Dennis the Menace in 1951 after his first wife declared that their own son Dennis was "a real menace." Ketcham wrote and drew the strip until his retirement in 1994.
