Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE A special Air Mail Route 96 flight was authorized by the Post Office Department to be flown on October 8, 1949 from the Edgewater Beach Hotel on the north side of Chicago to the roof of the Chicago Main Post Office. This flight was operated in conjunction with the American Air Mail Society Convention held at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. This cover was carried on the Air Mail Route 96 flight from the Edgewater Beach Hotel to Chicago, Illinois Post Office (where it was backstamped) and is listed in the Contract Air Mail Flights (CAM) Section of The American Air Mail Catalogue as 96-19. Service over Air Mail Route 96 was suspended after December 31, 1965, following the elimination of mail subsidy. Postal operations were resumed in June 1969 but were again suspended in June 1975.
