HO Athearn Blue Box 40’ Boxcar New York, New Haven & Hartford, NH #30564

Description: This auction is for an essentially brand-new HO Scale Athearn Blue Box 40’ Boxcar, New Haven #30564. This car is factory painted in the standard boxcar color of Tuscan Red (brown) with the white New York New Haven and Hartford script logo and white reporting marks. This was a classic earlier scheme for the New Haven. The New Haven began operation in 1872 and for a time had a near monopoly on rail freight in southern New England between Boston and New York. It was ultimately merged into the Penn Central in 1969 and then became part of Conrail at its 1976 formation. Major portions of the line are still operated today as Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor as well as Metro North, CSX and several short lines. This car comes in its original box with the original instructions, and has been assembled but has never been run, other than just to test after assembly. The car has the factory supplied horn hook couplers, but these could be swapped out for Kadee #5’s or similar knuckle couplers in a matter of minutes. As with all the Athearn blue box kits, this is a great looking and very smooth-running car. This handsome car from one of New England’s beloved fallen flags will make a great looking addition to the consist of a road freight or sitting at a loading dock on any layout from the early 1940’s through the 80’s.
