This is shiny Ilmenite crystals with blue kyanite crystals & minor tan pyrophyllite crystals from Graves Mountain, Lincoln County, Georgia. This has a "Box Works" habit ilmenite and some of the blades are curved. The kyanite crystals are a pale blue and not often seen with ilmenite. This is even tiny ilmenite crystals on top of the blue kyanite. The pyrophyllite is small and minor and you'll probably need a loupe to see the radial / stellate structure of the pyrophyllite. Pyrophyllite in this case is from where the kyanite is altered into a different mineral and with this specimen the process had just begun. This specimen was a seam/vein of ilmenite crystals that was cutting through a mass of kyanite and when it was removed it had attached/intergrown kyanite and pyrophyllite on each outer surface of the seam.This has extremely bright, mirror-like ilmenite!This crystal looks many times better than in the photographs due to difficulty photographing such highly reflective crystals. This is an extremely nice crystal that looks much nicer than the photos suggests.The specimen measures 1 3/4" x 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" wide or in metric 4.5 X 3.7 X 3.2 cm. This weighs 4.5 ounces or 128 grams.This size specimen is large for the species and the locality and it is priced relatively low given its size. This is shown with enlarged photos and will display on your screen many times larger than life. There are 12 photographs so please look at them all. Ilmenite is an uncommon crystal.
