Description: Limoges Elite BawoDotter Serving Platter Pink Yellow Rose Garland Gold 1914-1920 Elegant Decorative SERVING TRAY 11 3/4" by 9" from ELITE WORKS (Bawo & Dotter) Limoges, France, Garlands of PINK & Yellow ROSES & GREEN LEAVES w/Center Garland Medallion, SMOOTH Rim, circa 1914-1920 DESCRIPTION: The decorative tray was manufactured, designed, and decorated in the Elite Works Studio. The designer of the decoration was most talented. The overall quality of the design is quite professional. The center medallion consists of a circular garland of petite pink and yellow roses with their green leaves. The rim of this deep platter is smooth and is painted in a bold, gold trim. CONDITION: While this decorative tray is classified as used, its condition is superb. The only issue is a very small, flat glazed over dimple from the manufacturing process. You can see this in photo #10 at the very top right corner of the photo. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches, crazing or hairlines. See the photos. DIMENSIONS: The platter is 11 3/4" by 9" with a height of 1". HISTORY/MARKS: In the 1860’s, Bawo & Dotter was established in New York City for the purpose of importing china, especially Limoges porcelain. The firm established its own decorating studio in Limoges, France in the early 1870’s named The Elite Works. Bawo & Dotter began manufacturing its own china in 1896 in Limoges. The green mark on this plate is the underglaze white ware mark #11a (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Mary Frank Gaston) which was used 1920-1932. In addition, an overglaze decorating red mark (9a) is from The Elite Works and was used from 1900-1914. This mark incorporated Saint Martial from the seal of the City of Limoges. Since these two marks have conflicting time periods which was probably caused by WWI, we place this in the time period as 1914-1920.
