Description: These dolls can be very elaborate and intricately painted, and that artistry is what drew me to this matryoshka set. The faces are particularly captivating, and this exquisite set of nesting dolls is unique in that the painted story - or theme - goes all the way around the base of each doll. The veil doesn't extend the full length down the back as it does on most sets. It is also a large set comprised of 10 pieces, with the largest doll being about 10" tall on a base of about 5", and the smallest about 1" tall... or a little more than 2cm. (I have it pictured sitting on a nickel for size reference.) I took photos against different backgrounds and with different lighting to try and capture all the details and colors, but the photos really pale in comparison. Often the story represented is a fairy tale, but in this case the theme is village life. Each doll has been hand painted, with actual 24kt gold paint accents, and the largest doll is signed on the bottom by the artist. I picked them up brand-new on a trip in 1995, and have had them on display behind glass in a smoke-free home ever since. They are in excellent shape, with minor paint loss/chip on the largest doll. See photo for up-close detail. I can't tell you how that came to be, because I didn't notice it until I took these photos. It practically blends in. Please ask any questions before bidding. Each nested doll will have a protective layer to prevent jostling, scratching, etc. during shipment. (They don't have much space around them when nested, but there is some movement.)
