Description: Modern Chess Openings Ninth Edition by Walter Korn and John W. Collins One of the classics of modern chess literature, the RARE and difficult to find in hardback, Modern Chess Openings, originally by Griffith and White. This 1962 reprint is the Ninth Edition, edited by Walter Korn and John W. Collins. If you're a fan of the Netflix show, The Queen's Gambit, you may recognize the title from one of the episodes. This book is an ex-libris version and includes an Ex-Libris book plate from a previous owner (see pictures). The binding is in excellent shape and is holding tight. The spine is straight, but does show some loss of color from sunning. There is no dust jacket, but the red cloth boards are in great shape. There is bumping to the corners. The gilt lettering on the spine as well as in the design on the front cover are still clear and show well, although they look like they might be slightly faded. In addition to the aforementioned bookplate, the previous owner inscribed their name and the date on the inside of one of the first pages (see pictures). Internally, the pages are all present and free of tears or markings, save for page 300, which contains a small note in the margin in light pencil. Slight foxing to the tops, bottoms, and ends of pages. Please see all pictures. This is a fine example of one of the most well-regarded chess books of modern times in EXCELLENT shape!
