The set does not come with a headset - (tested using a pin type 3000 ohm Headset)! This item and the others we sell are not your typical "we sell anything" eBay seller radio sets, garage sale sets, "attic or barn finds", or Hamfest fix-er-uppers: these sets are ready to go! This set has been through our 6-point Quality Check process:Sound/Noise/hum check (filter issues, grounding issues, tube issues, ...)All bands function check (tune into known stations, receiving signals, ...)Set features check (Such as - crystal, tone controls, ANL, antenna tuner, ANT gain, ...)Physical/Mechanical check (knobs work, flywheel testing, missing or damaged parts)Tube check (all tubes meet at least 65% or better on a Calibrated Hickok TV-7) Safety check (sufficient check of the set for things such as for frayed cords, sharp edges, ...) This radio is a seven tube super-hetrodyne National FB-X HF Receiver from around 1933/1934. The FB-X is the upgraded crystal model of the FB-7 model and is considered the major upgrade of the series. The radio was designed for amateur radio back in the early days of radio and has a unique design in that you plug in a set of oscillator coils and a detector for each band you want to listen to. The FB-X series radios used rather advanced materials and construction given the years it was made: aluminum is used everywhere and the precision of the build is remarkable. The FB-7 series radios used an external power supply (5887AB Power Supply) and normally used a pin-type headphone set common to radio listeners of the day. This deal comes with the FB-X radio, the 5887 AB power supply, and two sets of coils: The FB-E set for 1.5Mhz-2.5Mhz and the FB-C set for 4.0Mhz-7.3Mhz. The reception is unexpectedly good and this unit has a crystal for improved signal isolation and a BFO that works great! This radio unit appears to have been painstakingly maintained/mostly rebuilt and is in "A" condition. We repaired the power cord of this radio in our shop and we were able to use the original cable for aesthetics. The original cable was shortened, hipot tested the polarization index for safety, and the plug end was rebuilt completely for safe usage. The alignment is very good, mechanically the unit is in great shape. The 5887AB Power Supply that is included with this deal is an "A" condition restored unit that has been tested to deliver the correct power required for the FB-7 series. The accompanying FB-E and FB-C coil/oscillator sets are in great condition as well and the radio was fully tested to ensure proper operation. The unit was retubed from our huge expanse of tubes on-hand to perform great for you. This is not just a shelf museum piece, but is a functional radio for those that collect and use antique radios. We expect this unit to sell very quickly! Notice from the pictures it does have the bottom plate and is very clean. The set performs very well and has great 'curb appeal'. Note: this set weighs 17 pounds, power supply weighs 11.5lbs and will require special shipping and handling to get it to you safely.
