Description: Nayat SandeelSALT-WATER BASS FLIES These are the latest of our Saltwater fry patterns, ideal for Bass, Pollack, Mackeral and many other saltwater species found around British shores. They are tied on stainless steel saltwater hooks size 4. The wing fibre is very mobile and glued with UV resin which helps the body retain the fish profile when retrieved. They are 12cms long which we have found to be the perfect size for shore bass. Fly Fishing Method: Using sandeel patterns for saltwater bass requires the right presentation and retrieve. Here's a suggested method: Location: Identify areas where bass are likely to be feeding on sandeels. These could be near rocky structures, estuaries, or flats. Cast and Presentation: Cast the sandeel fly ahead of your target area and allow it to sink. Retrieve by stripping the line in short, sharp pulls. Vary the speed and rhythm of your retrieve to imitate the darting and erratic movement of a fleeing sandeel. Depth Control: Use different line densities (floating, intermediate, sinking) to control the depth at which your fly swims. Match the fly line to the water depth and the fish's feeding behavior. Retrieve Styles: Experiment with different retrieve styles. A fast, aggressive retrieve can imitate a scared sandeel darting away, while a slow, subtle retrieve can mimic a wounded or lethargic sandeel. Pause and Twitch: Incorporate pauses and twitches into your retrieve. Allow the fly to sink and then give it a sudden twitch to simulate a sandeel changing direction or momentarily slowing down. Observation: Watch for any signs of feeding fish, birds diving, or surface disturbances that might indicate bass chasing sandeels. Adjust your presentation based on the observed behavior of both the fish and their prey. Remember that effective fly fishing involves adapting to the conditions, including water clarity, tide, and the behaviour of the fish.
