Description: Old Vintage c.1865 E. Howard & Co. Series III Coin Silver Drum Case Pocket Watch! Up for auction is this Highly Desirable, E. Howard & Co., Series III Pocket Watch! This lot contains an early E. Howard & Co., Series III, 3/4 Plate, Gilt, N Size, Key-Wind/ Key-Set Pocket Watch. The balance staff appears to be good, and has good motion when rocked gently back-n-forth, but soon stops. The serial number is 8162. The dust ring is missing, hence the shadow. The white baked glass enamel, single-sunk dial has Black Roman numerals, and King Louis XIV hands. There are several edge flakes, and one small chip at the 6:00 position on the seconds bit. It is housed in an unsigned, worn (scratches & impressions as commensurate with its age) coin silver, open-face drum case. All covers open crisply to 90 degrees and are attached by gold hinges. The watch weighs 192 grams or 6.77 ounces! We have no idea how long it has sat, when it was last serviced or what parts/ pieces may be scratched, worn and/ or missing. (design came over from the series I & II's)- Circular fork bridge.- Approx.1700 produced.- Early, non-original drum case (hinges on sides)- Bow keeper.
