Description: Hi! You're looking at an excellent condition book which is RARE, hard to find and OUT OF PRINT and classic memoir written by German modern art pioneer OSKAR KOKOSCHKA--the book is a collectible STATED FIRST AMERICAN EDITION and a HARDCOVER with the ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET and is NOT a remainder copy and NOT price-clipped, with the original $10.00 price in the upper corner of the front inner flap. This book is in excellent condition and is a former library copy with typical markings and a mylar plastic sleeve on the dustjacket, which is NOT attached to the boards (the upper and lower centers of the covers have small tape shadows where the jacket was attached); the book itself has a tiny ding on the lower right tip of p. 119 and just slight shelfwear and slight evidence of gentle browsing but no other significant flaws, and the dustjacket has slight curling on the upper edge of the front cover and front inner flap and just slight shelfwear but no other significant flaws! The book is titled Oskar Kokoschka: My Life and it was written by OSKAR KOKOSCHKA and translated by DAVID BRITT; it was published by Macmillan Publishing Co., Ind. in 1974 and is a STATED 1st AMERICAN EDITION copy.Written when he was in his eighties, Oskar Kokoschka's memoir captured the memories of one of the last of the great artists and formative forces in the modern movement of art. He records the substance and spirit of his experiences, retracing the encounters, the emotions, the shaping influences in his life and art from his young days in Vienna through two world wars, many years of traveling in a wide variety of lands, and living in many of the world's great cities. He reveals the sources of the themes that obsessed him: fire, the female principle, slapstick comedy and particularly the faces of women in the aftermath of a pie in the face, and the patiently awaited moment when a sitter for a portrait will reveal the flash of true identity that the artist captures in an instant.A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this book! Thanks for looking, and good luck if you're bidding!
