Past Patterns 0803 - 1850s Round Dress Sewing Pattern bust size 33"-41"

Description: Past Patterns PP#08031850s Round Dress Sewing Pattern This 1850s Round Dress is an original Past Patterns design. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The original round dress, the dress pattern was designed around, was sewn by hand. On that dress, the bodice laps left over right. This is considered masculine today but was of no consequence in the mid-nineteenth century. The original skirt was constructed of five 24 inch panels cut selvage to selvage. Work dresses of the 1850’s generally had hem widths between 96 inches to 130 inches. The stays which can be worn under the round dress for a nineteenth-century silhouette are item#0703, the 1863 lightly boned stay, item#0708, the 1845-1870 light boned stay and item#0705, 1830-1860 serviceable stays with no boning. Since 1984 more research has shown undersleeves and a wristband for the sleeves, white wool with a 1inch wide red rose print, and wide ribbon outlining the yoke. Instructions for an undersleeve are included at the end. The ribbon outlining the yoke was seen on a daguerreotype from circa 1849. We do this with the hope that people will start creating and wearing reproductions instead of antique originals. The clothes we wear and that our grandparents wore are part of our cultural history. Just as you would not abuse antiques furniture by cutting off decorative trim, so you should not abuse antique garments by wearing them. Our second goal is that you pick up a little bit of history when you sew the garment. The fit, the cut, the fasteners, the fabric design, just to mention a few things, are part to the technology of the time. Our third goal, in sewing the patterns, is to spark an interest in genealogy and local history. Researching local history is always a rewarding pursuit. SKU 0803 Thanks for looking!
