Description: This is a vintage antique sample of patented antique barbed wire. This sample features an Orlando M. Pond patent, dated January 02, 1883. This wire is called "Pond's Pierced Sheet Metal Triangle on One of Two Lines" by collectors. (ref Hagemeier 660-B). This wire features two round line wires twisted together. Barbs are three pointed made from sheet metal and cut into a triangle. Center of triangle has a single hole, and barbs are threaded on to one of the line wires, prior to twisting. Wire Sample is 18" in length. Wire sample shows moderate pitting. There are three barbs well spaced, and cut is well centered. Barbs show some metal loss with barb at one end having a tip missing.
