The Pin is Sterling silver The dimensions are 2.38x1.36cm There is very little information on the origin of Diana’s butterfly jewellery set. The set consisted of a delicate choker necklace with matching earrings and bracelet. Made of yellow gold, they’re set with diamonds and small dark blue gemstones, probably sapphires. The earliest appearance of the butterfly earrings came during a royal visit to British Columbia in May 1986. Diana wore the butterfly earrings and a gold choker with a matching butterfly. After this the set was rarely seen at formal events. Diana usually selected jewellery that had some specific significance to a particular event. In October 2018 the set appeared again in public on Diana’s daughter-in-law, Meghan the Duchess of Sussex. She wore the earrings and the bracelet together in Sydney during a royal tour of Australia. We have replicated the earrings in the original gold colour with a silver option as many of our customers prefer to wear silver on both versions the gemstones are 5A cubic zirconia’s. The gold option is constructed from copper with triple gold plating. Similarly the silver option is also copper with triple rhodium plating. On both options the pin is 925 silver which ensures that there no problem for those with sensitive ears.
