Description: Presented is a beautiful antique sterling silver candlestick holder, made and retailed by Theodore B. Starr. This piece dates to around 1890-1910. The candlestick is made in an elegant style, done in a balustroid form and ornately hand chased with classical scrollwork and floral decoration. The quality of the chasing is quite good, particularly on the roses around the base. Around the upper portion of the base are four scroll-enclosed cartouches, one with a monogram of FMO or perhaps Q in flowing script, as well as two larger cartouches in the same style around the base. The rest of the cartouches are unengraved, so this piece could easily be displayed with the monogram facing a wall. This piece is stamped with the maker's mark for Theodore B. Starr of New York as well as sterling, and the number 1688. This piece is in great overall condition. There are a few very minor dents or dings here and there, we point out the most noticeable of these in the tenth photograph. There are no splits, no major dents, no breaks, no monogram removals, and no repairs. The candlestick stands about 10 inches tall and measures about 5 inches in diameter at the base. This candlestick weighs 437 grams or 15.4 regular ounces. Due to the interior weighting, not all of this weight is sterling silver. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
