Description: 16.00 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Stunning Large Phoenix Studios Art Nouveau Gold Iridescent Pulled Feather Art Glass LampA Stunning Early Phoenix Studios Large Art Nouveau Gold Iridescent Art Glass Lamp with a Deep Maroon Pulled-Feather Design by John Cook in 1978. It was John Cook, along with Carl Radke and another artisan, who started Phoenix Glass Studio in 1975. Cook sold his share of the partnership to Radke in 1982. He then went on his own, under John Cook Studios, and was rewarded with much success, designing works of art for many notable collectors, including, Kenny Loggins, Joe Walsh, Barbara Streisand, Jacque-Yves Cousteau, and Roddy McDowall (for a gift to his life-long friend, Elizabeth Taylor) to name a few. John's Art Glass was shown at major galleries throughout the United States and museums as well. (More on John’s career below) The Beautiful Gold & Maroon Phoenix Studios Art Glass Shade has Iridescent Hints of Reds, Blues, Purples, & Greens when reflected in daylight. The cased glass shade interior is a Deep Amethyst, called Denim, so when the lamp is turned ON, it transforms the lamp shade color to a Sunset Red -- absolutely Gorgeous!! The Hand-Blown Lamp Shade is signed, ‘John Cook, Phoenix Studios ’78’. The matching Hand-Blown Base is unsigned. There are No Chips, Cracks, or Flaws to the shade or base. There are a few nominal scratches from years of moving & handling. The shade measures approx. 11” in diameter and is 6” tall. The matching Lamp Base measures approx. 6-1/2” in diameter by 14” tall to the light socket and has the original antiqued chain-pull light socket. The overall lamp measures approx. 18” in height to top of the glass applied finial. The Overall Condition, commensurate with its age of 46 years and its use during that time, is VG++. The Superb Art Glass Lamp is being offered here at a very reasonable “Buy It Now” price – or Simply “Make an Offer”! All offers will be seriously considered! Expert packing and insurance are included. NOTE: Lamp Shade & Base will be packed and shipped in separate boxes to insure they arrive safely to the new owner! Thank you for looking – and keep checking back for more quality antiques, vintage collectibles, ephemera and more!! About Me: I previously owned & operated a beautiful antique shop that specialized in antique/vintage estate jewelry, quality lamps & lighting, along with a variety of other unique, high-quality antiques from the late 1800's thru the 1950's. Items offered here are either from my former shop, or from my personal collection. I am also a charter member of eBay (when eBay was formerly known as AuctionWeb), being an avid buyer and seller of quality antiques since 1997. Starting to downsize with hopes of moving soon; and my hubby says it can’t all come with us! So, here's your chance to get quality items at a great price – and everything is negotiable! John Cook’s BioJohn was born and raised in California. He obtained his B.F.A. at The Institute of Fine Arts in 1972 and subsequently started Phoenix Studios in 1975 with two partners - Carl Radke being one. In 1982, he sold his share of the partnership to Radke. He then opened John Cook Studios while living in Santa Barbara with his wife and children until 1990 when the Cook family moved to Gearhart, Oregon (Gearhart is a small beach town on the Oregon coast). There he converted a 1946 gas station on HWY 101 into his glass-blowing studio with an adjoining art gallery. Besides the wonderful Fish Glasses and Tiles, John specialized in lighting of all kinds - chandeliers, lamps, wall sconces and more; bowls, vases, perfume bottles, wall platters and specialty items of all shapes and sizes.John had fumed (iridized) glass since the late 60's. He made Carnival Glass by spraying a metallic solution on the glass at the end of the blow pipe. It was reheated and then annealed, making the iridescence permanent. All his work is signed "Cook" plus the year of production. Sadly, John passed away in 2013, after 45 years in the Art Glass business. Fortunately, many of Cook’s pieces can still be found today in the secondary markets.
