First edition, 1st printing for a very serious collector, Zane Grey's 2nd book, and the second book in Zane Grey's Ohio River Trilogy. Even more thrilling than the tales of the West which have made Zane Grey so famous is this breathless story of the frontier—of the high courage of our forefathers who hewed an empire out of trackless wilds. The frontier in the early days was a wild and forbidding place. Surrounded by savage Indians and even more savage renegade whites; the few missionaries and settlers lived in constant danger. There was no law but the law of the long rifle and a man lived only so long as he could shoot faster and straighter than his enemies. Through this story stalks the figure if Wetzel the Avenger whom Indians call the Wind of Death. Implacable enemy of the renegades and their cruel Indian bands, the Avenger wages a lone war to free the border of these marauders. His exploits make a swift tale of rapid action and suspense—one filled with danger and true spirit of the border.
