Description: My grandparents bought this in Sweden and brought it to the USA in 1947. My aunt says she remembers it from before that time, probably before the World War II. This is a unique and rare Orrefors crystal vase in the shape of a glass float used for fishing. It looks like an aquarium with fish and seaweed. The vase has heavy thick glass walls that reflect the outer designs and allow viewing through to the designs on the other side of the vase. 7.5" high, about 7" diameter. It weighs 10 lbs. 11 ounces. There are tiny scratches on base and a chip at the base shown in photo of the base. The bottom etching "Orrefors" without a code on an impressive piece. Hours of internet sleuthing has turned up no matches. The last photo is there to compare to a vase by Edvard Hald & Simon Gate and the style of etching of the fish very similar to the one for sale. They were the 2 early designers for Orrefors from 1914 to 1960's. A roughly similar piece (smaller 5", not as thick, and their item is more expensive) is at freeformsnyc.com/products/fishgraal-glass-vase-by-edward-hald-for-orrefors-n8761.
