Description: the wonderful toy do note! there are *many* issues! see the more detailed description below. this is a wonderful toy sewing machine made right after wwii. production managed by the new york-based company kay an bee in the us zone of germany. you can read the very little i was able to find about the company below. if you know more, please please do share. i believe the wood here to be beech (i just waxed it). the chrome/tin? electroplating of the metal has worn with chemical reactions over time. there is paint loss. there are parts missing (the underside [i think a pedal maybe]), some tiny screws holding the lid of the back on the machine. this is a toy that needs lots of help. but i love it as a decorative object most is the very unique mark «us zone» that i don't see everyday. and kudos to the people who set up the production and distribution after a world war with few raw materials. the company who produced this machine is actually a new york company. you can read more about kayanee farther above and if you have any more information, please do share! the mark of «us zone» very specifically dates this toy to between september 2, 1945 (end of wwii) to May 1949 (see more on thar mark below). what i found particularly interesting about this mark is that this puts this toy's production extremely shortly after the war, when materials for manufacturing anything using, certainly metal, were short by the amount of those materials used for the war efforts (on all sides). i mean, think abou it: setting up the raw materials, manufacturing, supply and distribution chain in that span of time after a world war that delpleted everyone of everything. that's two pandemic twin years. i am shocked they had the where-with-all to make this happen. i have not come across this mark more than one other time, which is, i feel the thing that makes thig toy so interesting. just a very charming toy/decorative item. seeing it just reminds the mind of very charming toys of old. please see the last image for precise measurements and to get a sense of scale. marks (see second-to-last image) branded with «kayanee» and «sew master» engraved on the base plate berlin made in germany us-zone about the mark «us zone» dating from september 1945 (wwii's end) to may 1949 from: mcall following world war ii, the allied powers divided germany west of the oder-neisse line into four zones: american, british, french andsoviet. the american zone included the states of bavaria, hesse, northern portions of baden-württemberg, and the ports of bremen and bremerhaven. the american military government was headquartered in the former ig farben building in frankfurt. in may 1949, the three western zones (american, british, and french) were merged to created the federal republic of germany. the soviets created the german democratic republic out of their zone in october 1949. about kayanee toy company from: bestbusinessny kayanee corporation of america is a domestic business corporation. company number assigned to this company is 66495. kayanee corporation of america principal address is c/o shultz & garber 521 fifth ave. new york, new york, 10175. this company is inactive for thirty-five years, four months and eight days. we have no data about incorporation date. company status is currently inactive—dissolution. this company changed its name two times. on thursday 23rd december 1954 the name changed to kayanee corporation of america. on friday 23rd february 1951 the name changed to kayanee impex corp. maker's and/or other marks (see second-to-last image) branded with «kayanee» and «sew master» engraved on the base plate berlin made in germany us-zone dimensions please see the last image for precise measurements and to get a sense of scale. condition do note! there are *many* issues! see the more detailed description below. i believe the wood here to be beech (i just waxed it). the chrome/tin?
