Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a Shure Brothers 710AS "Rex" crystal microphone produced during the late 1950's and into the 1960's. This was an entry level mic that one could use for a variety of reasons but was most often used for paging or general broadcasting. These crystal mics had their limitations but they were the cheapest mics one could afford at that time as the dynamic and ribbon mics were much more expensive. The 710AS microphone also came as a 510C "Hercules" model that utilized the controlled magnetic element. Though they all looked the same. This 710AS is the much more common version of the two. I really should start by letting you know that this mic lamp is made by a gentleman in Canada named Gord D Birtch who is a Jack of all Trades. An artist and all around good guy with an eye for these older mics. I have several of his mic lamps at my residence and have been collecting them for almost a year. I send him the microphones and he turns them into this finished product. All of the mics are gutted, cleaned and professionally wired with high quality, efficient American L.E.D lights. Gord will often install metal mesh screen in his mics. Some do not have them but it really comes down to how the mic is designed and how we want the light to be thrown. This mic has that inner mesh screen. This 710AS casts an nice ambiance once activated as you can see in the pictures provided. It throws less light and has more of a warm glow. This will make a nice accent piece anywhere in the home, studio or office and this mic lamp will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand. I do have several vintage stands available in my Ebay store however. I'm just trying to get his name and recognition out there. His work is top notch. Again, I have several of his pieces in my residence and everybody who comes over absolutely loves them. The 710AS itself is in very good physical condition. It has just a few tiny spots of wear on the painted housing in the form of small paint chips but otherwise quite clean. The front grill is free of any dents or fractures and the original burgundy paint has a gorgeous luster. The joint mechanism is fixed and I would suggest using a 6 or 13 inch Atlas chrome gooseneck for having the ability to angle the light as needed. The cable itself is a high quality cloth covered item and has an older vintage feel to it. It's appx 9 feet in length and has an on / off switch as you can see in pic # 8. Simply plug this in and your good to go. I believe these LED's are rated at 50,000 hours. This is an actual Shure Brothers 710AS mic. Not a replica. I can't talk these lamps up enough. A cool lamp and perfect for that mid century vibe and an excellent gift for just about anybody. This model has a weaker LED so this makes more of a night light than a lamp you would read next too unless you are just a couple feet away in which case you could get enough light to do so. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY. This mic will screw onto any desk of floor stand you might have. And as always... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. International buyers are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item relisted. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
