Spanning 96 acres near Colgate Creek, it was named after Brigadier General Samuel B. Holabird, a former Army Quartermaster General. Camp Holabird was located in Dundalk, Maryland, near Baltimore. It was established in 1918 as a U.S. Army facility and was primarily used as a training and testing ground for military vehicles, particularly during World War I and World War II. Camp Holabird later became a significant center for military intelligence training and vehicle testing before it was eventually decommissioned. During World War I, Camp Holabird played a crucial role in supporting the American Expeditionary Forces in France by supplying Detroit-made vehicles. Thousands of military personnel were trained there to drive and repair automobiles and trucks. The camp also housed the Holabird Quartermaster Depot, which was responsible for receiving, repairing, storing, and preparing vehicles for overseas deployment.
