Vtg American Character 18” Sweet Sue Walker Doll in "Cotillion" Costume (1953)

Description: Vintage 1953 American Character 18 Sweet Sue Walker doll, dressed in her costume Cotillion. American Character Sweet Sue dolls were made from 1951-1961 in sizes 14, 15, 18-21, 24 and 31" tall, all hard plastic doll, with some being head turning walkers. Sweet Sue was normally dressed in beautiful gowns of silk, satin or chiffon, and marked: American Character Doll, Am. Char. Doll, Amer Char., A.C. or all sizes can be unmarked, as many are. This lovely Sweet Sue is not marked on her body but has her original hang tag, original Cotillion gown, hoop underskirt, bloomers and shoes. I did not see any damage such as tears or rips. Check out my many pics as I point out a few things: Wig glue residue, so common on these vintage dolls, but luckily is covered by her hair unless you look for it; Faint stain at lower side of face, more than likely from wig glue. I was not able to remove it with my doll cleaner but maybe you have a remedy in mind. Again, not really noticeable unless you looking for it; Underskirt has a new snap and it's wire hoop was hand stitched back into place by me all the way around; I did not have jewelry small enough but managed a faux diamond necklace, it's nothing fancy but at least it fills the empty space below her neck! Her shoes are original, but one shoe was missing a tiny bow. I glued small pom poms and colored them with a marker. Once the color fades a little it should be more like the color of her gown. Sue's hair is original wig, shiny still and in original style. I added the hairnet to keep it in place. She still has original hair pins, rusty but I left them there. The gown and other pieces were hand washed by me, but I was hesitant to iron that vintage fabric and will leave that to the new owner. Sweet Sue is a walker and turns her head from side to side when you make her walk, see pics. She was every little girls dream when these walker dolls came out, I remember my first walker doll too. Sweet Sue is about 70 years old, but she sure looks well preserved to me. I took a lot of pics in various light settings and she is so gorgeous. She is a rare find in such fine condition, all original with a few tweaks. The stand is included with the doll. Please review the description and pictures and ask any questions before making a decision to purchase. NO RETURNS. Shipping in USA only. Since USPS is not always the cheapest way to ship, I might send it by UPS or Fedex. The box weight, size and the travel distance determines the shipping choice too. If you have a reason why you prefer one service over another please let me know immediately after your purchase. Thank you for looking at my auction.
