Description: This listing is for a Fontanini paper mache standing wise man nativity figure, carrying what appears to be an incense container. This piece was made in Italy between the 40s and the 60s, and is “signed” by the sculptor, Simonetti. It does have some damage, however, it looks pretty good unless you’re right up on it.The underside of his beard has been chipped, and one of the fingers is chipped, but the biggest issue is that at one time it appears that this figure was broken in half just above the incense container. in addition, he was broken also at the neck. It was glued back together and really does not look too bad to me. See photos. It is more apparent from the backside as there is about a half inch hole in the fold of his garment where apparently a piece that was broken off was not found and glued in. If I were keeping this, it would not bother me in the least, as I said, it looks good unless you are scrutinizing it. It is considered 12 inch scale, and measures 13 inches high, and is signed “Simonetti”, the sculptor, on the base.
