Description: This WW2 map comes from a large collection from the estate of WING COMMANDER WILF SIZER, DFC & BAR.......(see italics below for more information). WW2 RAF / ARMY Map of ITALY entitled "POTENZA" Produced in April 1943 ahead of the Allied Invasion of Italy which took place between 3rd - 16th September 1943. WING COMMANDER WILF SIZER (DFC & BAR) - Having joined the RAF in 1938, he was already a Hurricane fighter pilot when War broke out, and therefore fought during the Fall of France and the Dunkirk Evacuation. He made several 'kills' during this period and was even shot down twice himself, the second occasion just South of Dunkirk on May 31st 1940 as he engaged a German formation bombing the troop filled beaches. During his own evacuation from Dunkirk, the steamer on which he was travelling was sunk by Stuka dive bombers. He went on to fight throughout the Battle of Britain, flew Spitfires in the North African Campaign and eventually commanded No. 93 Squadron during the Invasion of Sicily and beyond.
